Marianne's Response

yellow and brown leaf annabelle hydrabea

My newly planted annabelle hydrangeas have brown and yellow leaves which may have been due to my overwatering during our drought. But I also read that they may need a nitrogen rich fertilizer. What do you think? If it may be fertilizer what kind and how much. They have been only in the ground for about 10 days. Thank you john

Marianne's Response

I do not think the brown and yellow leaves are from lack of fertilizer as they are newly planted. Most likely stress from the transplant, the heat and perhaps too much water. Don't fret too much as these are tough shrubs and once they get a chance to rest this winter they will most likely sprout fresh green leaves in the spring. I use one application of Osmocote around all my hydrangeas in the spring with great results. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
