Planters for Mother’s Day

Want to create a special gift for the special moms in your life? Consider planters for Mother’s Day. I’ve got three great options from whimsical to sophisticated that are eye-catching and easy to put together. Here are the details for gorgeous selections packed with seasonal plants:

#1 Pretty Planter

When selecting the first of three planters for Mother’s Day, I chose a neutral coloured, shallow container with good drainage. After filling it with quality potting soil, I selected 3 small purple violas for the front. To their left I added three gold and orange marigolds. In the centre, I added one variegated Bishop’s Weed and directly behind that, a hot pink Gerbera Daisy (which symbolise grace and gentility). I filled in the remaining spaces with mini yellow snapdragons called Candy Showers. Back fill plants with more potting mix, then layer on some pretty moss if desired.

#2 Whimsical Planter

Is your mom more of a whimsical gal? Then planters for Mother’s Day with a less-serious look may be just the right choice. I selected a rustic, oval of a bucket to anchor this one. I love the fun chalk-board that’s painted on the front: just perfect for writing a little message to mom before you present it. Again, select your container then fill it about 2/3 full of quality planting mix. I nestled a deep purple sweet alyssum, Violet Knight from Proven Winners in the front and sides. Amongst the alyssum, I added Wire Vine, which boasts pretty green leaves on dark, reddish stems. Behind that, in the middle I placed another variegated Bishop’s Weed for height and weight. Behind that, I filled in with a brick red coleus, edged in chartreuse called Vulcan. To the right of the Coleus, I placed a few Tuberous Begonias in an orangey-pink shade, “Non-Stop Rose Picotee.” To the left of the coleus, I chose a pale yellow Gerbera Daisy, “Vanilla.” Firm up the plantings by adding some more soil and add a fun note on the little chalkboard.

#3  A Sophisticated Pair

How about a pair of planters for Mother’s Day for the sophisticated Mom? This stunning duo provides a lovely frame for an entryway and would also be a great gift from a “few” of her kiddos. I started with two tall, narrow containers. After filling with soil, I chose three alyssum plants in a tall, white variety and then loaded there rest of the planter in rust-coloured African daisies called “Bright Lights.” To add some height and interest,  place a bundle of dried, curly willow branches in the middle of each. The spirals add a dramatic effect and draw the eye up the arrangement. This simple planting, multiplied by two is a lovely and striking effort that is sure to be a hit with Mom!
