Do you have special someone who loves plants? Are you thinking about the best Valentine gifts for gardeners? It’s easy to tailor your gift to your loved one’s specific passions and hobbies. For example, if your sweetheart is into gardening, consider a gift certificate to their favourite nursery. Even better: check out these fun finds and your present is sure to be a hit!

1. Gardening Books

Make great gifts. Whether it’s a gorgeous, coffee table style book, a reference or how-to, books are a thoughtful choice. These books can take your Valentine’s gardening skills to the next level.

Here are favourites in each category:

  • Coffee Table Style:

Garden by Phaidon Editors boasts a gorgeous cover with richly illustrated pages devoted to all things garden. From art, science, history and culture, this book takes the reader on a cross-continental and cross-cultural journey highlighting the inspiration and diversity of horticulture throughout history. Best price was at Target, $45.

  • Reference:

The Art of the Garden: Landscapes, Interiors, Arrangements, and Recipes Inspired by Horticultural Splendors by Relais & Châteaux North America (Author), David Engelhardt (Photographer), Daniel Hostettler (Introduction). This comprehensive sourcebook is brimming with inspiring ideas for seasonal gardening, interior design, and entertaining.  Experts in the creation of beautiful environments, the authors show how to translate their savoir-faire into indoor and outdoor sanctuaries and festive events at home. • How-To:

Just $30, How to Design a Garden: Create and Maintain Your Dream Garden by Pollyanna Wilkinson is a gem. It will arm you with all you need to know to create a mood board, design layout, hardscaping, plant combinations, lighting, planting and focal points. Once you’ve designed your space, this book includes month-by-month growing guides to help you nurture your creation.

2. New Tools

I can personally endorse this one as I received this exact set over the holidays. While all gardeners have tools, usually at least a portion of them need to be replaced at any time. Getting a squeaky clean set of garden tools is always welcome. A perfect collection from Grenebo Gardening has eight high-strength stainless steel gardening tools and one storage bag. The tools offer ergonomic handle designs and the darling canvas tote has a specialised hole on each tool handle for hanging them up in the off-season or after use. The bag does have a floral design making it a nice choice for ladies.

3. Gardening Apron

Duluth Trading Company has a reputation for offering high quality clothing and accessories for outdoor lifestyles. They’ve got a few different aprons to choose from, but this one called the Canvas Bib Apron is a winner for just $50. What I like best about it is that it is neutral in colour (subtle stripes in blue and white with khaki accents) making it appropriate for men or women. Also, THOSE PADDED SHOULDER STRAPS! Simply slip the neoprene straps over your head, thread the ties through the grommets, and pull. It automatically adjusts to your height and you can cinch to your preferred amount of tightness. A few styles of pockets (some with tuckable flaps will keep seed packets safe) allow you to keep tools at the ready. Oh, and it’s heavy duty canvas that is machine washable. Highly recommend.
