The Watex Easy Indoor Garden Kit

I wrote in this space not long ago about how easy it is to grow parsley indoors during the winter. You can read that post HERE, but to summarize: Just repot your outdoor parsley into a more-deep-than-wide pot, give it some well-draining potting soil and place it into a sunny window. You’ll have fresh parsley all winter long and even through the spring.

I also wrote in a post for Organic Mechanics about how easy it is to create and keep an indoor herb garden. Find a sunny window, keep an eye on moisture and you’ll be snipping chives for omelets or even making batches of pesto throughout the winter months.

Both blog posts mention situating your pots on windowsills or near bright windows. What if you don’t have a lot of space on a windowsill, or not a lot or available room for a small table near a suitable window? That’s where the Countertop Garden Kit from Watex can come to your rescue.

How the Watex Garden Kit Works

Set up your indoor herb growing area quickly and easily with this vertical system that holds 8 3-in. pot. The pots, which come with the kit, are mesh net pots. The mesh pots are designed to absorb water from the kit’s Root Watering System. This system allows for the gradual release of water through the system, ensuring that the plants are not overwatered and do not suffer from root rot. Use the funnel that comes with the kit to water the top of the system. The water then trickles down through the system and waters each pot with a certain volume of water. Excess water trickles all the way down to the bottom and into a collection tray.

What I Love About this Countertop Garden Kit

  • It’s a complete unit, which means you can move the whole system at once with no need to take out and move pots individually. And it sits sturdily on a table or counter.
  • The self-watering feature is a game-changer. The reservoir means you can leave the system for a period of time and not worry about your herbs becoming crispy with a lack of water.
  • The bottom water collection space helps keep your surface water- and stain-free.
  • It comes in three colors—white, black and green. I like having choices!
  • The kit comes with 8 mesh bags. These bags hold the potting soil in the pot. Without the bags the soil may sift its way out of the pot and onto your counter.
  • The price point—about $50—is a reasonable price for a system that should last you for several years.

I’ve set mine up with some herbs just this past weekend and so far, so good. It looks great now, and as the herbs fill in it’ll only look lusher. I am positive I wouldn’t have been able to set up 8 pots of herbs in this small footprint (16.5 in. x 9.5 in. x 11 in) without the Watex system.

If something like this seems like it would be a good fit for your space, head over to www.watexgreenliving.com and investigate one for yourself.
