Title:
A Growing Love

Author:
Sarah Seigars

Description:
My desire to garden began years before I could ever plant my first seeds into the ground. My husband and I had lived in many apartments over the years, all the while dreaming and preparing for our first home. One of the elements of such a dream was for me to be able to have a space to plant my very own garden. I still do not know where such a desire was born from but it continues to grow to this day. When my husband finally carried me over the threshhold of our new home three years ago and it was there that my gardening dreams were finally realized. The first two years we sowed seeds into two raised beds. With the planting of those seeds, my passion for gardening began to sprout and grow. I began to see my appreciation for growing food reflected in my two young children and together we discovered a depth of learning that deeply nurtured their curious minds. This year, we realized that our family’s love for gardening could not be contained in those two beloved raised beds. And so, this spring, in the middle of suburbia on our 1 acre plot, my husband and children and I rolled up our sleeves, dug up our lawn and built a garden together. It was literally a labor of love. In the end, my husband carried me over a new threshold, beyond a gate he built with his own hands, into a 20x30 foot oasis. Our garden is not just a space where we grow food, it is an extension of our home and a place where we build our work ethic, grow our passions together, cultivate our learning and nurture our love for the amazing craft called gardening.
