What is the best soil and sun for Black Mondo?

I live in Auburn, WA and have black mondo grass. It doesn't seem to be happy where it's planted. What kind of area is it happy to be in?

How to identify a comfrey plant

Marianne, are you able to tell me if the plant in the attached photo is Comfrey? Someone gave it to me as Comfrey, but the back of the leaves are rather smooth then rough, like a comfrey plant's leaves. Hope you can help. Thanks.

I'd like suggestions for a home garden, approximately 30X100'. I'd like to plant a few rows of corn, pickling cukes, tomatoes, maybe some butternut squash if room permits. I also would like room between rows and crops to get in with my tiller to make weeding easier.
