Spring Plantlings from Ferry-Morse

Spring Plantlings from Ferry-Morse are the perfect alternative to seed sowing this spring. Maybe you got busy catching up on past seasons of Ted Lasso and you just didn’t get around to sowing seeds indoors. Or, maybe your green thumb is brown when it comes to seeding. Or perhaps like me, flea beetles don’t give emerging seedlings a chance to become big, beautiful and bountiful adult plants. With Spring Plantlings, you essentially skip an entire step in the growing process.

I’ve written about Ferry-Morse’s Plantlings before, mainly for the late-summer/fall vegetable planting season. This is the first time that they’ve come out with what they describe as “baby plants” for spring planting. This opens up a wider range of plant possibilities, most notably with categories that require a longer growing season than what could survive in the shortened growing window of fall.

Plantlings Shipped and Ready to Plant

The two aspects of Ferry-Morse’s Spring Plantlings Collection that I appreciate are:

  1. These “baby plants” are grown far enough along at their nursery to have well-established root systems. The babies are ready to hit the ground running, so to speak, when they arrive at your door.
  2. The plants arrived at your door after traveling however far a distance and they are in great Ferry-Morse packs these plants super well to take the bumps and drops of shipping without a hitch. As someone who has received hundreds of plant deliveries, I have been very impressed with their attention to packing.

What’s In the Spring Plantlings Collection

As I mentioned, the Spring Plantlings Collection includes many more options than you’d get with the Fall Plantlings Collection. In fact, the collection also includes 40 curated Garden Starter Kits. Each includes 12 baby plants covering a range of culinary and floral themes. A few examples of the many different kits includes:

  • Mixology Herb & Fruit Kit: Featuring Strawberries, Mint, Basil and Cucumber Plantlings, it is the perfect assortment for creative at-home mixologists.
  • Aromatherapy Herbs Kit: If you can’t sleep or are feeling stressed, Basil, Lavender, Rosemary and Sage Plantlings are known to relax the senses.
  • Cottage Style Flower Kit: Inspired by European cottage life, this kit features Hollyhock and either Purple Coneflower or Shasta Daisy Plantlings.

I’m excited about the Italian Vegetable and Herb Kit—it’s like a pizza in the making! There’s more to the collection than just kits, though. They’ve added new flower, herb and produce Plantings varieties this season, including Cabaret Good Night Kiss Calibrachoa, Sweet Basil and Roman Pink Strawberries.

Spring Plantlings start shipping this March, and what is available to you depends on how far north or south you live. I think you’ll love the options.
