The Plant Parent Guide
For Feeding Plant Babies
By: Brittany Mueller
New to Gardening? Here are 12 reasons why Osmocote® is the right plant food for your plant babies.
Slow Release Plant Food Basics
- Your plant babies need a combination of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium to thrive – Osmocote® contains the perfect cocktail of all three.
- Osmocote® gets its name from the process of Osmosis. Our nutrients are dissolved into the soil to ensure your plant babies get fed.
- Osmocote® is naturally activated by changes in soil temperature and moisture levels – feeding your plant babies only when they need it and eliminating waste.
- Osmocote® releases gradually over the course of 4-6 months. Save time by eliminating the need for constant feeding!
Osmocote® & the Environment
- Osmocote® features a natural biodegradable coating made from linseed oil to feed your plant babies over time.
- Worried about harsh chemicals on your flowers and produce? So are we! Osmocote® benefits the environment by reducing the risks associated with overfeeding (chemical burn) and overwatering (runoff).
- Worried about overapplying? Don’t be – Osmocote® has a safety margin that reduces your risk of chemical “burn” if over applied by 3x the recommended rate.
- Osmocote® minimizes excess fertilizer runoff! The Osmocote® coating holds the product in the event of heavy rains or overwatering.
Osmocote® Advantage
- Ever been jealous that you don’t have access to professional quality products? Don’t worry, your Osmocote® product is the same kind that professional nurseries and produce farmers use.
- Eager to grow your own produce? Osmocote® Flower and Vegetable can be used for edible plant babies such as fruits, vegetables, and citrus.
- Looking for a feeding solution for your container plant babies? Osmocote® Outdoor & Indoor Plus is ideal for pots, window boxes, hanging baskets, and anything else in a container.
- Osmocote® can last as long as 8 years when stored in a relatively cool, dry place.
Repotting
- Pick out your favorite plant from your local nursery or Home Garden Center and bring it home.
- Loosen the plant from its original container.
- Pour enough potting soil into the new pot, so that plant remains the same height outside of the container.
- Center plant inside the new container.
Feeding
- Sprinkle 1 scoopful of Osmocote® Plus Plant Food per 2 gallons or 4 square feet (1 scoopful = 3 tablespoons).
- Mix Osmocote® into the top 1-3 inches of soil.
- Water your plant baby regularly.
- Reapply plant food every 6 months. It’s that easy! Watch your plant baby grow and thrive.
