Burlap

Hi, I’ve heard you can put burlap bags over your vegetable garden. Do you know how to do this and why?Is mulch or something added over or under the bags? I live on the south hill of Puyallup.

Rhubarb

My rhubarb died back earlier in the summer. Now it has regrown and I'm wondering if its ok to pick it now or should I leave it? We have had interesting weather here in the pacific northwest.

Garlic

Think I found some elephant garlic that I forgot I had planted. I pulled it up and it was dirty and had a thin skin that came off while cleaning. It also came apart into several large cloves. Is this edible? Can I plant it again?

Rose blooms with brown edges and deformed shapes

I began planting most of my roses in 2016 and 2017 and was dismayed to find that during June and July, most blooms had brown edges and/or deformed shapes. By mid-August, blooms were normal and continued to be normal for the rest of the bloom season. I did not use any pesticides on the roses and would like to avoid ...

saving geraniums over the winter

I bring geraniums into the house to save through the winter. I have four that are bushel basket size. I will cut them back and then put into pots. Do they do better to be in as small as pot as possible, or is it OK to put into a larger pot where the roots have lots of room?

Earthworms and Florida Gardening

We now live in Ocala, Florida. The Land of sand. For the past 3 years I have "created" a compost bin to help improve our sandy soil. I have added 6 yards of good soil to our beds. What else do you recommend for us? We rake our grass cutting and use them in our beds as mulch.

Butterfly Eggs

I read that butterflies lay their eggs on the leaves of perennials. Is this true? If so, can you please tell me which ones? Do I leave those alone until spring to preserve the eggs? Thank you!
