Protecting bulbs in winter
Posted by Williki | January 21, 2016 | Marianne's FavoriteI just saw the bulb lasagna video. In zone 5 where does the planted pot go for the winter. I tried this once and left the pot outside. The bulbs were mush in spring. Should the planter be in a garage or watered? Thanks, Kim
When to plant a potted hellebore
Posted by mcarlton | January 18, 2016 | Marianne's FavoriteI purchased a blooming hellebore at the grocery store. It has been in the house and has stopped blooming, but the foliage is still alive. Can you help with landscape design?
Posted by Alan Green | December 27, 2015I'm a little confused (not unusual) about your web site. I have some landscape problems (design ideas, etc.) that I need to work with someone on. Do you cover these topics or is it strictly "gardening"? Thanks
Trimming and repotting ficus trees
Posted by Bonnie Warehime | December 1, 2015I did not bring my 40+ year old ficus tree inside. The first frost of the season caused all the leaves to turn brown and die. The limbs are okay so far. It is a fairly large tree, but I don't know if it would help to trim it. I know it should be repotted, but it is too big ...
How to store and maintain dahlia tubers
Posted by Martha Parker | November 11, 2015Yesterday I dug up all 54 of my dahlia tubers for winter storage, and found most infected with small white scabs. Could it be the "Moodoo" fertilizer we used last spring? My husband tells me that potato farmers will not use organic manure to fertilize, as it may cause scabs. Should I store tubers and plant next spring? The flowers ...
Transplanting white lilac plants
Posted by | November 11, 2015Hi, My late husband planted this plant that has white flowers about 4 years ago. What is the name of this plant, and when is a good time to dig it up and replant it in a different place in my garden? Right now it's in full sun and about 9 feet tall. I am hoping to be able to ...
Best growing conditions for bat flower plants
Posted by Robert Godwin | November 8, 2015I have three Bat Flower Plants that I purchased a month ago, and I have two planted in the ground, and one in a pot. I have them all in a good soil that I mixed with peat moss, black cow manure, and peralite. My problem is that they are drooping and not upright like I think they should be. ...
How to grow a Boston Fern indoors
Posted by Rosemary Anderson | November 2, 2015Hello Marianne, I have killed one Boston Fern, and I am worried about the one I am trying to keep alive now. I have a container of Osmocote and I am wondering if it is safe to use and how much for a 10" pot. I have read that they should sit on a bed of pebbles, do not want ...
