Why does my yard have snails?

I live in Auburn WA and I have noticed snails in my yard. I haven't noticed them before and there seems to be many of them. Why does my yard now have them? And what natural way can I deter them?

Winter plants for a backyard garden pond

I am adding a pond to my back yard/garden area. Are there any water plants that would survive the winter in the Pacific Northwest? Also, what plants would you recommend planting around the pond? I have a backyard wildlife habitat and would like to make the pond more natural looking.

I've read that the berries of the Virginia Creeper vine are poisonous. Some websites mention it and others do not. Just how poisonous are Virginia Creeper berries? Do you have to consume many for it to take effect?

Why did my roses stop blooming?

My roses did poorly this year after a few years of beautiful blooms. I live in North Granby where it's very windy and a bit colder than down in town. Any ideas? I don't see any evidence of disease. Lastly, is it too late to cut the rose shrubs back now? Thanks.
