Will caffeinated coffee grounds get rid of slugs in my garden?

Hi, I think I heard it said that used coffee grounds (the caffeine ones) will keep slugs away. Is this true?

We have a 3-year-old asparagus bed. It is producing shoots, but they are very small, about the size of a pencil. We did cover it well before winter with compost from the chicken house. The compost was well aged, at least a year. It is somewhat dry in our area, I have watered it a couple of times.

How to overwinter Guara

I live in Reno NV, Zone 5 and I can't seem to overwinter any Guara. I've put mulch on them in the fall, but every spring they're very dead! I know they can come back every year because I see them all over town. Any info would be much appreciated!
