Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

STORY: I was feeling a bit discouraged and for so long I admired the Santa Rita prickly pear. I decided to turn a yard full of weeds into a beautiful landscape to have this beautiful plant to look at. It's Beauty inspired me and when my first bloom appeared, I felt like a proud parent. This is my first bloom. It became more than just wanting the plant, through the process, it opened my eyes to other beautiful plants and the

My First Garden
Votes:
STORY: I recently bought a house in Hudsonville, MI. It is known as the "Salad Bowl" of Michigan. It was as inspiration. My sister and I palnted a lot of flowers. I wasn't really thinking about planting a vegetable garden this year. However, my wheels started turning when I spotted two galvanized basement egress window wells in the neighbors yard. He was just about ready to take them to the scrap yard. He said I could have them. I repurposed them

Growing out of my depression.

STORY: In 2014 I lost my brother who was just a couple years older than me, shortly after his return from deployment in Afghanistan. From 2014-2018 I was severely depressed. I had lost my best friend and brother. During that time in 2016, my husband and I had another child together, but that pregnancy was really hard on my body and I ended up in the hospital for 3 months straight, at one point having to choose between my life and

My gardening experience

STORY: I come from a family of gardeners. When I was about 6 years old my grandmother showed me how to gather seeds and start my own garden. I have been gardening ever since. I am now 73 years old and still garden. I also work in the garden department of my department store and have done so in other stores for 30 years. I have taught many people how to garden. I love it!

The Perfect Rose!
Votes:
STORY: After retirement, I needed a hobby to fill up the days. I started working on buying various flowers to beautify our yard and found I had a real knack for it! The more I got into it, the happier I was! This perfect rose smells as good as it looks! Many of the new breed roses have no fragrance at all...not so with this beauty!

Master Gardener Volunteer Trainee

STORY: I moved from Alberta, Canada to Georgia USA in 2002. I left behind rich black soil to be greeted with hard, nutrient-poor clay. I spent YEARS killing all manner of plants. This year I buckled down and took Master Gardener training, and I did my first soil test, and planted fruit trees (june berries, paw paws, blueberries, figs, mulberries) and put in this raised bed garden!

Relaxation

STORY: I remember gardening with my mom and dad so I guess that’s where it all started. The photo is my first garden after about 12 years. I miss that garden but am 2 years into a new one. Gardening is relaxing and fun. Plus it’s fun to watch things grow.
