Banana Shrub Help

Posted by Amy Scholz | April 26, 2020

I have a large Banana Shrub that I have grown and shaped into a tree beside and over my deck. It is completely infested with scale. I don’t want to spray anything and couldn’t reach the top anyway. Can I cut it back so no leaves are left without harming it? It has just finished blooming.

Low night temps

Posted by Bonnie Maravich | April 26, 2020

I want to plant clematis with calibracheo in front (to shade the clematis root) . Temps may go down to high 30’s at night. Is that too cold to put the calibracheo in the ground?

Plant ID

Posted by Susan36 | April 23, 2020

I am trying to ID this plant. It has feathery type leaves and delicate white flowers. It’s root is distinctive as well. It smells like licorice and looks like a peeled white potato. If I agitate the potting soil they were in, it has a bad smell. My question is, can that potting soil be used when starting a compost tumbler? If ...

Grubs Oh My

Posted by TomandLinda | April 20, 2020

I held over my hanging baskets of Angel Wing Begonias in my greenhouse. When I went to repot them I found several grubs in the soil. I have removed as much of the soil as I can but now wonder what of any treatment I should do before replanting my begonias with new potting soil.
