Removing leaves from hellebores

Posted by Ann Greene | January 2, 2014

In today's Olympian Newspaper, Marianne mentioned pruning off old foliage on her hellebores. Did she mean the all-green ones or just the lowest yellowed ones? My white hellebores are in full bloom now and gorgeous, but are surrounded with the green leaves. Do new leaves come with the flowers? This is my 2nd year having them and they are so ...

I have a Meyer lemon tree that blossoms around November which results in tiny lemons (size of nail of small finger). By December the tiny lemons drop off and do not mature. The tree is 2 ft. tall with a 1 1/2" trunk. It stays outdoors and is brought in by the first frost. I fertilize 3 times/yr. and water ...

dwilhelms’s Question

Care to expound on clematis? I'd like to plant one so that it climbs a very tall rhododendron. The top of the plant will get plenty of sunshine, and the roots will be protected from the sun by the rhody's lower branches. What would do well in Aberdeen's maritime microclimate? Soil concerns or needs? Thanks! David Wilhelms

Hi, Marianne- A while back I took your advice to use of plenty of lime when growing tomatoes and it paid huge dividends. I spot compost using kitchen waste but since the waste includes a lot of citrus peels and coffee grounds I avoid the area where I plan to next grow tomatoes. Will the amount of acid in citrus ...

Bevy’s Question

Posted by Bevy | December 12, 2013

I found your article on Hellebores interesting. I had what I only knew then, as the Christmas Rose. Didn't get to save it when our old house was demolished. My question: Can they be planted in a container like a half whiskey barrel. Will they winter in that type of container? I would love to have one again--w/pink flowers. Thanks, ...

I have three cyclamen that I planted in pots on my somewhat covered front porch on the north side last week. My husband wants to move them to the garage but they are really big pots and very ...
